How to get company impact score instead of user impact score?

When multiple people from the same company share feedback about the same need, e.g. on separate calls, their feedback is counted separately.

Let’s say for each of them the missing need is critical. In various feature views, the user impact score for this company and feature is 6 and includes two users. Although we need to have both users’ insights at hand, we need to count only the maximum impact on a company (maximum of user impact scores of company’s users) instead of the sum of user impacts.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Thanks for your advice :)

Hi @Tomas Hruby,

A little unclear as to what you’re trying to do here exactly. You said you want to count the “maximum impact on a company” but that would be a sum of the user impact scores from all users at that company.

For example, depending on the number of companies you are wanting to look at, but you could use a company column to display the sum of user impact score per company for a set of features. For example below I have four insights attached to Feature A with various user impact scores and two companies and can display the impact score for each broken out.

Features board showing company columns

At the company level there are more relevant factors to consider such as account health, ARR/MRR, and other factors that could be brought in via segmentation and our integration with Salesforce or identified through data from Amplitude or Mixpanel to help you better prioritize at the company level.

Thanks @scott.baldwin,

Yeah, the Company column was one of the approaches I tried, but it doesn’t scale well when there are 100+ assorted companies in a features view.

I’ll try to re-iterate what I meant by maximum impact on a company and why it doesn’t equal the sum of user impact score.

  • Let’s say the sales process with Company A involves 3 or more meetings with different people. In Productboard, there are two pieces of critical feedback on feature 1, but from different Company A’s employees and from different meetings.
  • At the moment, Customer A bumps the total feature 1’s user impact score by 6.
  • At the same time, there’s feature 2 where two important customers gave us critical feedback.
  • At this point, feature 1 and feature 2 have the same user impact score in a feature view, but feature 2 is more important for our product strategy, because it has bigger reach.
  • In other words, we want to avoid artificially bumping the user impact score if multiple people from the same company give us feedback on the same thing. Right now, Productboard doesn’t count feedback from the same user twice, but we’d need to stop counting feedback from the same company twice.

I hope it makes sense now. I’m available for a quick coffee and talk if more context would help. Thanks for your help :)

@Tomas Hruby thanks for the additional details. I’ll pass this along to our team. I don’t foresee any planned changes here in the near term that would enable the approach you’re noting, so you might have to work with the company columns for now as a workaround.

Hi @Tomas Hruby,

As Scott says, we currently don’t have a solution that fits your request exactly. The company column workaround is one way that you can consider but it is a bit painful as mentioned. Only other thing that comes to mind is to exclude the use name from the note and only attribute notes to companies (and perhaps mention the user in the note body to track for future communication). This way the system will count the most recent importance set for given company on a feature. It’s not the maximum importance you want but I think it’ll come pretty close to your desired result.

Hope this helps. K
