Is it possible to customize the release statuses? I want to add one more status and change the colors. I could use feature status, but I’m using that for a different purpose.

@plainclothes sure, you’ll find these under Settings. Check out this support article on the topic https://support.productboard.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058171114-Customize-status-values-for-features (you can also get to all our support content using the site search in our community).

You will have to be a Admin to make these changes, so if that’s someone else on your team, you’ll need to work with them.

Scratch that, I see you meant “release” statuses, not “feature” statuses. Are you talking about these (upcoming, in progress and completed)?

If so there isn’t a way to change those. But I’d love to understand what you’re hoping to accomplish here.

It’s primarily for cross-functional communication -- the release status isn’t a big deal for the product development group.

For relative date planning, I use the following releases which roughly correlate to the status shown.

  1. Now / in progress
  2. Next / scheduled
  3. Soon / prioritized
  4. Later / backlog

I would color code each of those differently to help communicate the meaning, so I’d also want to customize the color. FWIW, I kinda hate yellow for “in progress”.

I fully admit it’s sort of a mishmash of the feature and release statuses. It would probably bother me less if I could just make all the release colors the same.

Colour what exactly? Just the flag icons? Something else?

Entities like objectives and themes also have colours so just wanted to be clear.

Yes, I was referring to the release status flags. The fact that they have color coding now is kind of distracting because the coding doesn’t really related to what our statuses mean. I don’t usually show the completed stuff for planning purposes, so I’m left with in progress and three “upcoming” statuses.

Feels like your Now would fit with our In Progress release flag and that your Next and Soon would fit with our Upcoming release flag. Is the gap just Later? And could Upcoming also work there? Still not really crisp on the issue here and what you’re trying to achieve vs. what a solution might look like.

Yeah, I’m probably just worrying too much about the visual communication of the flags. I was hoping to customize the status as noted in my post above to better explain what each relative date column means.

Semantically, “Upcoming” implies that the work is scheduled and ready to work. In our case, that would only apply to Next. Soon would be neither scheduled or fully defined and Later is further out still. I wanted to convey those differences with more than just the words, but it’s not a major hurdle.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the insights. I’ll share them with our product team.
