Introducing product management to an established organisation

Hi,I was wondering if anyone else has been down the journey of starting Product Management from scratch in an established company, and has any advice for doing so?I work for a IT Managed Service Provider and I have been given the challenge to establish Product Management as a department into a very Sales Driven company. I have tried going for some quick wins to show what Product Management can offer but I still feel Product Management is the last thing on Sales and Technical Teams minds when they are working.I don’t work in an agile software environment and a lot of that methodology doesn’t seem to fit well within a service orientated company and am curious to see how others may have tackled this challenge?ThanksDarren

Role of Product Manager in Cybersecurity requirements?

Hi Makers, I am a PM at a software company dealing with energy, manufacturing, and eventually life sciences/pharma space. We eventually are targeting an ISO 270001 certification to hopefully officially maintain some cybersecurity compliance. When treating the technical and procedural changes needed for cyber security, do you find this belongs on a roadmap? Is it the Product owner responsibility to get the factors for cyber security in the backlog? Or is it more part of the product vision and do you rely on your technical team? Has anyone here ever managed this in a small company?

Hi all, I was in a conversation with stakeholders from our Customer Success and Operations team talking through how to best leverage Productboard for sharing a near-term roadmap and the question came up on how other organizations notify their customers of upcoming or recent releases so I thought I’d check with this group. We are a B2B product. Our enablement checklist includes: in-app announcements, Knowledge Base article of the feature + highlighted in our “What’s New” KB article, customer newsletter, champion/exec newsletter, PR/marketing campaign (if applicable), Customer Success call agendas, Executive Business Review decks. What else am I missing? What channels do you leverage to let your customers know about the latest and greatest. -Megan

Your first 30/60/90 days in product

Starting a new product career or a new role is always an adventure. If you’re just getting going, it’s good to map out your first 30/60/90 days. I usually like to focus on establishing some understanding of the business, the product, how they work (their processes), and the people. And then get clear on the goals you have and align on those outcomes then get started. I would get some time with your co-founder and get clear on what the role is, what it’s accountable for, and the desired outcomes over 30/60/90 days and what support you’ll need.Do take the time to build relationships internally — these can help you, give you allies, and help you be successful.A few resources I can share that I’ve found helpful for my teams and even myself.
