Custom Fields API for Products, Components and Features

Hello everyone 🖐️ Productboard has released a new API addition, enabling you to sync Productboard custom fields with any data source!

This is an exhilarating API release as it unlocks many use cases for our makers. Some of these include:

  1. Sync custom fields to your delivery tool. Using the bidirectional API or webhooks, you’ll be able to keep custom fields in sync with any delivery tool.
  2. Associate analytics or data with a feature. Now, you can associate and synchronise data from any source with a feature. Want to associate monthly active feature users? You can. Want to associate financial metrics like OpEx? That is now achievable. The possibilities are endless.
  3. Create custom formulas using imported data. In combination with our recent formulas release, you’ll now be able to combine metrics from multiple sources. For example, create the most sophisticated RICE score imaginable. Pull in “reach” from your analytics tool, combined with “effort” and “confidence” from your delivery tool and calculate it in real-time.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you build.

  1. A short blog outlining how custom fields work.
  2. API documentation.

Does this mean our teams have to build an integration between Jira and Productboard to sync Jira Sprint # to a custom field in productboard? I sure hope not.

Looping in @Jaroslav_Tran to share the context for the current and future Jira integration. I believe custom fields are in scope, but I don’t know whether Sprint number is managed differently.

However, as to whether you can do this with this API, you can. It should be simple to set up a quick service that can sync these fields, hours or days of work. If you have any difficulty doing this, please let us know, we’re always happy to support those building on our API.
