Using the community

Our mission is to bring together Product Makers so they can learn, grow, shape, and advocate for Product Excellence.We want to foster an open and welcoming community for all, and as moderators we will make participation in our community a harassment-free experience for everyone. As a reminder, all members of the community are expected to abide by our Code of Conduct.Users are a powerful part of fostering a community that achieves the purpose and environment articulated in the Code. Violations of our Code of Conduct should be reported directly to our community team by clicking on the flag button (located at the bottom right hand side of any post). Our team will be notified immediately. Doing so helps keep our community safe at all times. Alternately you can also report concerns by sending an email to: community@productmakers.com 

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) are principles at the core of our work as we bring people together around a common purpose to Make Products That Matter, Together. And it is through this community that we want to continue this journey.To create common language, we see DE&I as follows:DiversityDiversity is generally understood to be the representation of all our varied identities and differences.As such we seek to proactively engage with, understand, and draw on a variety of perspectives and in this process we can affirm our similarities and common ground while also finding value in our differences of perspective and experience. Diversity is created when people who are different from one another come together, and include everyone in the room.EquityEquity as a goal seeks to ensure fair treatment, equality of opportunity, and fairness in access to information and resources for all. Here we want to achieve parity across all actions for historically and/or currently underrepresented and/or marginalized people and groups while accounting for diversity. Equity considers power, access, opportunities, treatment, impacts and outcomes, in three main areas:Representational equity: the proportional participation at all levels Resource equity: the distribution of resources in order to close equity gaps; and Equity-mindedness: the demonstration of an awareness of, and willingness to, address equity issues.As such we seek to provide fair treatment, equal opportunity, and access to resources and work to achieve respect, dignity, and understanding, by getting to know others at a deeper level, to collaborate, immerse ourselves, and organize around common purposes.InclusionInclusion builds a culture of belonging by actively inviting the contribution and participation of all people. Inclusion is an active, intentional, and continuous process to address inequities in power and privilege, and build a respectful and diverse community that ensures welcoming spaces and opportunities to flourish for all.As such we ensure that every person’s voice and story adds value, knowledge, and a fuller understanding. By sharing stories and perspectives we create balance in the face of dominant narratives and power differences. No one person can or should be called upon to represent an entire community and it is through the community’s story being known and understood, that we do our work.Actions you can takeImproving here requires us all to be intentional.
