How do you celebrate new features and launches with your team?

When you launch a new feature, do you take any time to celebrate with your team? Most launches it feels like we put the feature out and go right back to working on the next one, without even taking a moment to really celebrate the hard work that went into it.I’m wondering if anyone else also struggles with this, and if anyone has a neat way of celebrating internally! Doesn’t have to be big or over-the-top. Just something to recognize the accomplishment and give some sense of closure to the development cycle… so tough to find in an Agile world.

Using 3rd party vendor for for core IP solution

Hi all! My product offers a complex matching engine, which is the driver of our business. To improve this engine and speed up the dev work, my tech lead has decided to use a 3rd party vendor. Does anyone here have experience with using a vendor for your product's core IP? I’m concerned about what will happen to our business if the vendor shuts down, or has bugs and issues… Or perhaps it is common practice to use external tools for core business solutions? I'm new to a business and the industry, where do I start?

It’s maybe not as dramatic as the subject sounds, but I’ve recently joined a company that has several divisions, there are cross overs between divisions, two are B2C, one is B2B and one is both.I’m working in the B2B area mainly, but some of those products I’m responsible for have B2C elements too so I can see my domain expanding as there are only a few product people (3) across it all.It’s a great opportunity that has got me buzzing about it, but with so many things that are happening right now in silos, where do I start with pulling together things like roadmaps, what’s currently “in flight” and what opportunities there could be. I’m only a month in, so I’m still in data gathering mode.Dev resource is limited, so getting to a priority of what we are trying to do “Now” is my focus, but I need to start shifting to “Next” pretty soon. I’ve got the scrum master, product owner hats on as well with the dev team.They are a young team when it comes to product management and UX, but it’s a go

Hi, shot in the dark: I’m a Product Manager in state government and we define the business value of products not in terms of ROI but in terms of desired improvements in business outcomes that relate purely to quality, efficiency, and quantity of services delivered across populations. We are new to this, though, and don’t have yet a good example of how to report progress against these product delivery outcomes. Anyone have a resource to share for this purpose? How do you ensure a robust feedback structure in your product practice?

This week I listened to a great interview with David Rock (CEO and co-founder of the Neuroleadership Institute) on the Brave New Work podcast. David had this to share:People don't dislike feedback; they just dislike feedback from other people. We crave feedback, [but] feedback from other people creates a status threat. I get it, but feedback is a hugely important part of developing our skills and making improvements to our own performance and growth. Insights from Sales & GONG: what's your process?

ProductBoard’s multiple integrations make it insanely easy to have a higher quantity of well-documented insights than anything I’ve experienced in the past. That’s obviously wonderful. The challenge I’m running into already is that Gong is a source of gold, and a time sink. As we add more reps and we add more demos, it’s consuming a lot of time. On the flip side, asking our sales team to pick and choose what things they push to PB leaves a lot on the table, and removes time from their revenue generating activities. Also, massive confirmation bias comes into play.What process have you found that helps balance time with the great information prospects give you on their calls with the sales team?

The mythical man month - still an issue

Fred Brooks, author of the seminal book, The Mythical Man Month died yesterday. If you don’t know the book, you should go find a copy and read it. It tackled the head-on the idea that throwing more people at a problem that’s behind schedule delays it even more and also ideas around the complex interrelationships between tasks and the people performing them. The book isn’t about product management, but valuable none the less.Ironically, as my friend @Ian Ames pointed out on LinkedIn, “47 years after it was first published we still have conversations about 'throwing more people at projects’”Read the book? Love this quote I recently saw from James Clear:One of the simplest ways to win is to always connect the small things you do to the larger thing you hope to accomplish.Thinking about this in the context of our work in product, why do you think we sometimes struggle to make this connection? For example the small things “outputs” aren’t always connected to the larger things “outcomes”.
