Welcome to the first edition of Maker Matters, a monthly digest about our Product Makers community. We hope you find it helpful.

Wrap up 👨‍💻

1000+ Product Makers

We just crossed 1000+ people in our new community and it only took 8 days! 🎉Considering many were off for Canada Day in Canada 🇨🇦, the Fourth of July in the US 🇺🇸, and other European holidays we are pretty happy so many of you took the time to join us in our first week. Thank you to everyone that joined so far and shared an introduction, question, or started a discussion.

Want to share the community with a friend or colleague? Just fill out our handy referral and we’ll get them an invite (and you’ll also get a thank you from us when they signup).

Groups 👏

Over the last couple weeks we've added some new groups to the community including our remote-only, product operations, and London groups. So far our Womxn in product group is leading the way.

Our groups are dedicated spaces for people to collaborate, share, and engage with others by location, role, interest, or topic.

We do have plans to expand our groups over time as more folks join the community, but if you have ideas for other groups, contact our community team.

Introductions 👋

We moved all of our community introductions to their own category. Take a moment to say hello to new folks joining and share a comment or like.

Community tips 💁🏿‍♂️

Want to stay up to date on the latest topics? You can follow a topic or a category and get updates anytime new items are posted. You can also visit the Recently active and Help others tabs to see the latest posts and questions that are unanswered.

Question or Conversation? We get asked sometimes which one to use when creating new topics. In short, Question topics are best for questions where you’re likely to get a single answer. While Conversation topics may have many answers or are great for general discussions. If you get it wrong, don’t worry as we’ll update it on our end. Choosing the right one also helps us surface questions specifically on the Help others tab.

Product thought 💭

“Creating great products takes much more than just having a great product idea. It takes competent, passionate, skilled product people—and a cross-functional product development team that shares the same characteristics—to deliver a successful product” — Petra Willie, Strong Product People

Fun fact 😀

One of the questions we ask when you join the community is what dangerous animal you deal with the most. It’s entirely optional and a fun way to learn just a little about folks when they join. Here’s a bit about what Dangerous Animals our community is dealing with:

  • 323 WoLF tamers
  • 253 RHiNO tamers
  • 158 HiPPO tamers
  • 92 ZEbRA tamers
  • 41 Seagull tamers
